II.   Course Description

The language arts course for grade 7 focuses on reading, writing, speaking and listening, and language (grammar and vocabulary).  Students will read both literary and informational texts with emphasis on determining what the text says explicitly.  Students will be required to cite textual evidence when speaking and writing about the texts in order to support conclusions drawn.


III. Course Objectives

Reading-To read and comprehend literary and informational texts independently with

proficiency.

Writing-To write routinely over extended time frames and shorter time frames for a range

of tasks, purposes, and audiences.

Speaking and Listening-To participate effectively in collaborative discussions with

classmates and to develop speaking and listening skills in order to conduct presentations.

Language-To demonstrate a command of standard English grammar and usage when writing and speaking and to acquire and use new vocabulary words.

-Notebook Paper

-Pencils and pens

-Binder with dividers (sections: ELA, Math, Science, Social Studies)

A-90=100

B=80-89

C=70-79

D=60-69

F=Below 60
